Total Balance Pilates and Yoga is centered on the fundamental principals set down by Joseph H Pilates. The Pilates Method is an exercise system focusing on improving flexibility and strength without building bulk and has been around since the early 1920’s and is still evolving today!
Cathy Konciak owner and creator of Total Balance Pilates and Yoga has been studying fitness for nearly 30 years. As a fitness professional trained in many diverse modalities, she believes that yoga and pilates are the best methods to develop and maintain a strong, healthy body.
Since 1997 Cathy has studied Pilates. Beginning her Mat Certification at the Physicalmind Institute with Kelly Kane she expanded her study to Power Pilates in 1999 learning to teach on all apparatus and received her certification in 2000 following a rigorous 500-hour training program.
Pilates training includes the study of anatomy and working with special cases as well as healthy individuals. Cathy feels fortunate to continue to work closely with her pilates teachers Peter Roel and Phoebe Higgins – their insight and knowledge is invaluable. Cathy keeps her training current by attending workshops, working with her teachers and is a member of the Pilates Method Alliance. She is also a Pilates Method alliance certified instructor and is co-director of teacher training at Pilates Shop/Yoga Garage in Manhattan.
Cathy has completed a 200-hour certification through Bright Spirit Yoga, which is recognized by the Yoga alliance. She is a member of the Yoga Alliance and Cathy is trained to teach prenatal yoga and has taught prenatal yoga at an area hospital. Her training also includes restorative yoga and meditation.
